Short description:

The course provides an introduction to quality engineering with theoretical background and practical knowledge. The lectures provide an overview of tools and techniques for quality control and assurance and other elements that are part of the quality management system. Within the course, students acquire basic methods and advanced knowledge in the field of measurement and measurement system analysis, statistical process control, design of experiments, advanced product quality planning along with teamwork skills and various problem solving techniques. An important part of the course is laboratory work, where the contents of the lectures are put into practice.

Prerequisites:

The following pre-knowledge is recommended for successful study:

  • Maths (basics of statistics)
  • Measurements in mechanical engineering
  • Technical drawing and 3D modeling
  • Manufacturing Technologies
  • Data processing and evaluation

Content (Syllabus outline):

  • Introduction to Quality engineering
  • Basic Quality Tools (7QC)
  • Problem solving techniques (8D, A3, 5W)
  • Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Design of Experiments (DoE)

Objectives and competences:

In the Quality Engineering course, students will:

  • Learn the basic quality tools and techniques of statistical process control,
  • become aware of the importance of measurement techniques and acquire the ability to select appropriate measurement systems in the manufacturing process,
  • learn the methods of design of experiments and their application in empirical modeling and process optimization
  • acquire the competence to apply basic tools and techniques of quality assurance/control in all stages of the product/ service creation
