Doctoral students of mechanical engineering are solving world problems

Doctoral students of mechanical engineering are dedicating their time to scientific and research work, and also solving world challenges in the field of engineering. The doctoral student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, Jure Voglar, has had a breakthrough with one of the best solutions in cooling system design, which will effectively remove heat from an object with internal heat source. The challenge was posted on the InnoCentive online platform, which awarded him with $ 5000.

The solution for the engineering problem titled Heat Removal from an Object – New Cooling System Design Made of Steel brought Jure Voglar an award for one of the two best solutions among 419 proposals. The challenge was to design a steel cooling system for effective heat removal from an object with internal heat generation. The cooling system should work in a limited space and has to meet the requirements regarding the cost as well as non-homogeneity of temperature within the object. The student's solution will help the development engineers with construction of an effective cooling system, which will enable appropriate operation in their application.
