The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana is continuously striving toward scientific excellence, actively applying it to the industrial environment in Slovenia and abroad. A successful transfer of scientific and technological solutions into the industrial environment is also underlined by a framework agreement on cooperation with the Gorenje Group.

With this agreement the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is advancing and strengthening its cooperation in the field of research and development projects, connected with research, development and improvements, and quality testing of products, services and production technologies. This cooperation will transform innovative ideas into innovative Gorenje products with improved functionality.

In addition to the scientific research the mission of the faculty is to educate personnel, which will be ready for the challenges of modern engineering. The concluded framework agreement between the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Gorenje also opens more options for cooperation regarding human resources and education. This will create the opportunity for including the students in projects and practical training, while Gorenje will also offer scholarships for students of mechanical engineering on all levels.

The Faculty of Engineering UL is also a proud developmental partner of leading Slovene technological companies, offering them cooperation on projects with the most demanding tasks. In 2017 the faculty ran 40 international research projects and 190 marketing projects with the industry. The Vice-dean for the scientific-research sphere and international cooperation, Prof. Dr. Tomaž Katrašnik points out that balanced teaching, scientific-research and development work of the Faculty in interaction with the industrial environment is the key for effective support of development of the economic and social environment.

Gorenje points out that cooperation with scientific institutions is crucial, since they can hand in hand create the benefits for the companies, research institutions and the society as a whole. At this point in time Gorenje is launching a new generation of washing machines and dryers Gorenje WaveActive, which are the result of cooperation with the students and researchers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Among other things they upgraded and examined the quality of new washing and drying technologies, which are built into these newest appliances.
