On Thursday, 31 May 2018, students of the Faculty of Engineering and students of other faculties of the University of Ljubljana presented the first electric formula racing car in Slovenia. The presentation was held in the student campus which previously served as a workshop venue where students developed and constructed the formula racing car. This year the formula racing car was named Eldrax and it was developed through an interdisciplinary cooperation of students and professors, with the support of several companies. 90% of the racing car's components were designed and manufactured in Slovenia by the students working on the project and their sponsor companies.

After two years of working on the petrol cars Minki and Griffin, the Superior Engineering team opted for electrification, following the current trends in the automotive industry. This year the numerous team members who are experts in different fields, from engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, economics, law and design, set themselves very high targets. With a great amount of support from their sponsor companies they managed to design the first electric formula racing car, which complies with the rules of the Formula Student competition. In July they will already participate in a competition in Italy, followed by a competition in Hungary.

The Eldrax racing car weighs 240 kg, it reaches 100 km/h in 3 seconds and its final speed is limited to 120 km/h. This year's racing car has a completely new chassis which is made entirely of carbon fibres, with carbon rims and titan suspensions. The team has put a lot of effort in finding components that are lighter, stronger and better than those which were used in previous years. There are very few teams who design a new chassis every year, therefore the team mostly aims at improving the existing one in the future. This year's chassis has been developed with the 4 x 4 drivetrain in mind, the car can accommodate drivers of different heights and has an optimal position of the battery package. The Eldrax formula racing car is the result of Slovenian knowledge and development, which is a key aspect of the project. During the event the team leader and racer Tim Novak said: "The construction phase was incredibly difficult for all of us, as we set really high targets and managed to complete the project even earlier than in the last season, which is a good indicator of the improvement of our organisation and effectiveness."

The representatives of the sponsor companies and of the faculties were also among the participants at the event. In his speech Miloš Požar from the company Mahle Electric Drives Slovenia remembered the project's beginnings, which date back to 2015, and emphasized the importance of cooperation: "This is the best investment that companies, i.e. employers, can make." Gorazd Lampič from the company Elaphe also had a brief speech about this year's cooperation on the project, while the Vice-dean of the Faculty of Engineering prof. dr. Andrej Kitanovski expressed his full support to the project.
