An urban and architectural project contest is open for a new building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana

date: 20.07.2018

category: Sporočila za javnost

The Faculty of mechanical engineering at the existing location at Aškerčeva cesta, has been constrained for some time by spatial restrictions, which mainly relate to small and inadequate laboratory premises, therefore a new building is necessary for faculty development. In cooperation with the Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning of Slovenia, the Faculty opened a two-stage (urban and architectural) project contest for selection of the most technically optimal solutions and selection of documentation creators for new buildings. The contest, which is open until 7 November 2018, is simultaneously also opened for the new building at the Faculty of Pharmacy.

With the contest, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering will acquire high-quality architectural and urban solutions that will make possible to choose the most suitable option. With a new location at Brdo and an efficient spatial solution, the faculty will be able to provide a high degree of excellence and thus transfer new research findings to the industrial environment more intensively. Mechanical engineering studies have changed from classical teaching methods to research and development work in laboratories, which are the basis to produce successful personnel, which the economy needs at this time.

The contest defines an urban and architectural design of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Pharmacy buildings in the area marked EUP RD 358, within the framework of the University Centre Brdo municipal detailed spatial plan (OPPN 65).  New buildings of the two faculties, including the regulation of outer surfaces, should provide educators and students quality working conditions for study and research, cutting-edge, modern and technically faultless laboratory and other related facilities, and a generally stimulating university environment.

The entire contest is published on the ZAPS website.
