Prof. dr. Matija Fajdiga becomes Professor Emeritus of the University of Ljubljana

Every year in the beginning of December the University of Ljubljana celebrates the anniversary of its foundation and this year it celebrated its 99th anniversary. On Thursday, 6 December 2018, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana prof. dr. Igor Papič awarded the University's highest honorary awards for lifetime achievements.

 

The retired professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering prof. dr. Matija Fajdiga has been awarded the honorary title of Professor Emeritus of the University of Ljubljana.

This is the highest award of the University of Ljubljana and it is awarded for extraordinary contributions to the development of a scientific or art discipline and for great dedication in carrying out pedagogical or mentor work. In his speech the Rector said: "You have contributed to the quality of research at the University, to the development of your fields of expertise on national and international level, you have implemented new study programmes and with your work you have contributed to the development of Slovenia and of the wider region. We are also grateful to you for educating your successors, who can can further transfer your knowledge, upgrade it and discover new frontiers, the same way you did with the knowledge you were given by the older generations. This is the right path as progress is only possible through the transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next." 

ABOUT THE EMER. PROF. DR. MATIJA FAJDIGA

The emer. prof. dr. Matija Fajdiga graduated at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana in 1963, and obtained a PhD in 1975. In 1985 he founded the Laboratory for development evaluation, in 2002 the Centre for development evaluation and in 2005 the Chair for machine elements and development evaluation, with which he established operational strength as an independent scientific discipline. He was the Vice-dean and the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and for 8 years he was a member of the Administrative Board of the University of Ljubljana. He retired as a full professor in 2011 and worked as a Research Counsellor until 2013. Among other awards he also received the golden plaque of the University of Ljubljana and the Lifetime achievement award from the Association of Mechanical Engineers of Slovenia.
