A full Gallus hall celebrated the centenary of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana

On 26th November, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana held a celebratory academy at the 100th anniversary of mechanical engineering at the University of Ljubljana. A full Gallus Hall of the Cankar Centre was a meeting of guests from different interest groups, all brought together through their interest in mechanical engineering.

The celebratory academy was opened by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mitjan Kalin, who thanked all who helped in its development in the past, and to those who are still working at the Faculty. “We already proved, that through excellent scientific work we can help the Slovene industry, and thus increase the growth of our economy, living standard and welfare. Achieving connections to the immediate environment should be the fundamental and irreplaceable goal of each university,” added the Dean.

In his speech he also remarked on the new facilities, which the Faculty needs for further education of the best researchers. “We are at a point, where we need funding. At a point where the important decision makers of the third country since the Faculty was founded to decide, if the modern Republic of Slovenia needs a faculty of engineering fitting the times, so it can remain the stronghold of development in mechanical engineering. In the past all state funded developmental projects of the Faculty were instigated by the industry, but supported by the higher-education community and the University, so we need and expect a decisive and vocal support of all of you.”

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana is ranked among top 200 engineering faculties in the world. It has received the highest acknowledgments and awards in Slovenia and internationally. The scientific and research achievements, published in the best journals show, that it has scientifically and professional matured.

The event was held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia  Borut Pahor.
