The traditional Rector's Award for the Best Innovation of the University of Ljubljana competition is organised in cooperation with the Ljubljana University Incubator (LUI) and promotes the entry of technological and non-technological innovations and innovative business ideas into the market.  Due to the current epidemiological situation, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Igor Papič, presented the awards online this year. We are proud that the award for the best innovation in the Researches category was awarded to Assist. Dr. Damir Grguraš and Luka Sterle from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, for a project entitled ArcLub One.

ArcLub One is an innovative system for supplying the liquid phase of the cryogenic medium to the cutting zone during cryogenic cutting. The system combines a cryogenic medium with CO2 and a lubricating medium to ensure sustainable and clean cutting of difficult-to-machine materials such as stainless steels, titanium and nickel alloys. This extends the life of cutting tools by up to 200 percent, increases productivity and reduces cutting costs by up to 50 percent. The ArcLub One system is in the patent application phase and is ready for use in an industrial environment.

»I am glad that despite the difficult and unpredictable situation, there is still enough willingness for research and innovation. I am proud that the University of Ljubljana is not lacking such people, who thus contribute to the development of society in the best possible way,« said the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Igor Papič.

On behalf of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering we sincerely congratulate all the winners!
