Engineering – With Connecting to Sustainable Solutions

Yesterday, the traditional Academy of Mechanical Engineering took place at Cankarjev dom, which each year honors outstanding individuals in the field of engineering with awards. This year, Igor Stanonik from Polycom, a company that adapts to rapid changes and introduces modern business trends, and Marino Furlan, president of Intra Lighting, which creates light in the offices of clients such as Facebook and Microsoft, received the award for global penetration of Slovenian engineering. Retired professor of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UL dr. Alojz Poredoš was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his selfless work. Prof. dr. Alojz Poredoš founded the Laboratory For Refrigeration and District Energy at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana in 1992 and was head of the Department of Thermal and Environmental Engineering from 2002 until his retirement. He persistently extended his research results to industry and thus laid the foundation for successful technical cooperation between science and industry.

The second part of the event consisted of a round table - By Connecting to Sustainable Solutions, where successful engineers shared their valuable experiences. The word of the round table referred to the current situation - in the last year and a half, business in particular had to adapt to the new reality - action shifted from global to local. Global supply chains have shrunk at lightning speed, reminding us of the importance of reliable integration and sustainable solutions. The new times call for a sustainable business strategy that benefits society, the environment and the economy. Experiences and new ideas were discussed by mag. Marko Gorjup, Director of TPV Group, dr. Boštjan Pečnik, Executive Vice President at Gorenje, dr. Hubert Kosler, CEO of Yaskawa Europe Robotics, dr. Miha Bobič of Danfoss, prof. dr. Mihael Sekavčnik, Dean of FME UL, dr. Jure Knez, Technical Director of Dewesoft and dr. Marjan Pogačnik, Director of Iskra Mehanizmi. They agreed that the introduction of new forms of work such as online communication and working from home has changed work processes, interpersonal relationships and also the development of engineering itself.

The Academy of Mechanical Engineering, organized by the Association of Mechanical Engineers of Slovenia, has been continuing its tradition of promoting the integration of engineers and drawing attention to the importance of the engineering profession for more than a decade.

Our heartfelt congratulations to all the award winners!
