category: Sporočila za javnost

On Thursday, 10 September, the 6th ŠTeKam Student Technical Conference took place at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana. 25 participants took part in this year's conference. However, due to the epidemiological situation, 18 of them presented their work.  All 25 papers will be published in the conference proceedings, and the best of them will also be published in the scientific journal Ventil. Technology enthusiasts from 5 members of the University of Ljubljana took part in the conference, and this year, for the first time, students of the 4th grade of high school were able to attend the conference. The conference was held in consideration of all protective measures to prevent coronavirus infection and in accordance with the recommendations of the National Institute of Public Health.

New discoveries and findings are based on knowledge and active research. At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, we enable young people to get involved in scientific research at an early age.  One of the possibilities is participation in ŠTeKam Student Technical Conference, the aim of which is to make known the domestic research achievements of students who have already demonstrated above-average innovative knowledge or achievements in the technical field during their education. Participation in the conference represents an entry into the world of scientific research and can significantly influence on the further career path of the participants.

This year we organized the sixth technical conference, where we could listen to the presentations of the results, which were the result of the hard work of several authors. The conference was attended by students from various members of the University of Ljubljana - Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Academy of Music and students of Celje School Center (Gymnasium Lava and Secondary School of Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Media). Their contributions will be published in the conference proceedings and entered into the Cobiss system under the typology Published scientific paper at the conference. Students can claim participation in the conference as an outstanding achievement, which is one of the requirements for receiving a Zois Fellowship, and by registering an article in Cobiss, all participants will receive an officially accessible reference on scientific research.

At this year's conference, the audience voted exceptionally for two winning entries, as the participants were divided into two groups due to the epidemiological situation. The authors of the best papers were Matej Rostohar, who presented the Measurement of Young's Thin Film Module, and Marko Tacer, who presented the paper Generating Electricity through the Exploitation of Charging in a Water Column. Both are from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UL, and their papers will be published in the scientific journal Ventil.

The organization of the conference was supervised from the beginning by an editorial board consisting of Assist. Dr. Tomaž Berlec, Assist. Dr. Miha Brojan and Assist. Dr. Boštjan Drobnič.

Applications for the 7th ŠTeKam Student Technical Conference, which will take place on 9 September 2021, are already open. Further information can be found here.
