At the online event held on 6 January 2021 to announce the selection of Slovenia's Female Engineer of the Year 2020, a special lifetime achievement award for work in the education and development of talents was presented for the first time. Its recipient is Alenka Knez, a mechanical engineer who taught at the Secondary Technical and Vocational School in Trbovlje for many years, and who is today actively involved, among other things, in the SOS School project to help young people with math problems. 50 years ago, this enthusiastic  mathematician and teacher was the only woman among 300 colleagues to enroll at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Ljubljana. The lifetime achievement award at the Female Engineer of the Year 2020 event was presented to her by the 'We will be engineers!" initiative that aims to promote engineering, technology, natural science and innovation.

The title of Female Engineer of the Year 2020, awarded at Wednesday's event, went to Jasna Hengović, a software developer at the Cosylab Company.
