On Tuesday, 3 June, the University of Ljubljana held a ceremonial promotion of new Doctors of Science in Ljubljana’s Križanke venue, honouring a new generation of researchers. Through their knowledge, creativity, and dedication, they will make significant contributions to the advancement of science, technology, and society.
The keynote speaker, Prof. Dr Zvezdan Pirtošek from the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine, reminded the audience that while knowledge will continue to open new possibilities, the key question remains how we understand and use that power. He emphasized the importance of respecting truth, maintaining critical thinking, and embracing a research mindset that acknowledges that questions often outlive answers—and that wisdom grows precisely through an awareness of the limits of our own knowledge.
At the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, we are proud that as many as 21 of this year’s newly promoted Doctors of Science are our researchers. Their dissertations address some of the most pressing challenges facing modern society and industry, ranging from artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and laser technologies to sustainable energy, manufacturing processes, digitalization, and innovative engineering solutions.
This achievement confirms the high standard of research conducted at our Faculty and its contribution to the creation of knowledge, innovation, and technological progress.
