Today, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana opened an exhibition of selected paintings by Emeritus Professor Jože Vižintin, one of Slovenia’s leading experts in tribology, technical diagnostics and mechanical drives.

Dr Jože Vižintin has played a significant role in the development of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Slovenian engineering profession. As the founder of the Centre for Tribology and Technical Diagnostics and the Chair of Tribology and Maintenance, he made a decisive contribution to the advancement of research and education in his field. For his scientific achievements, he has received numerous national and international awards, including the Zois Award and the Golden Plaque of the University of Ljubljana.

After retirement, he devoted himself to a long-standing passion: painting. He first acquired artistic knowledge under the mentorship of academic painter and designer Dr Boris Beja, and later further developed his artistic expression under the guidance of academic painter Nuša Lapajne Čurin. Just as curiosity guided him in science, it continues to inspire him in art through exploration, observation and the search for new perspectives and forms of expression.

At the opening of the exhibition, he said: “Science shaped my professional life and brought me countless challenges, discoveries and achievements. Painting, however, offers me something different today: time to observe, feel and create. It helps me find peace, enriches my inner world, and allows me to transfer thoughts, impressions and emotions onto the canvas in ways that words often cannot express.”

The exhibition offers visitors an insight into a lesser-known, yet equally creative side of a professor who has made an important contribution to the development of Slovenian mechanical engineering.

The exhibition will be on display in the Winter Garden of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Restaurant at the University of Ljubljana until the end of October 2026.

You are warmly invited to visit.
