This year, between 30 June and 4 July, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering successfully hosted a summer research camp, bringing together 21 students from 20 secondary schools across Slovenia. The camp once again demonstrated the significant interest among young people in research, engineering, creativity, and modern technologies.
Participants could choose from 11 interdisciplinary workshops, which were based on practical work, independent research, and solving challenges. The topics covered were varied and innovative, ranging from 3D modelling and prototyping to solar-powered drinking water devices, aerodynamic analysis, aircraft assembly, collaborative robot programming, modular servomotor development, and smart devices.
The workshops were held under the guidance of our experts, giving students a first-hand insight into modern engineering practice. In addition to the workshops, participants attended expert lectures on topics such as robotic manufacturing, human body movement, innovative welding, and eco-friendly water hydraulics, as well as many other current issues.
Students have gained experience of working in our laboratories for the first time, as part of development teams and research groups. These experiences will stay with them throughout their future careers and may even inspire them to pursue an engineering degree.
The summer research camp forms part of our broader mission to connect education, science, and society, and to nurture the next generation of Slovenian engineers. We encourage curiosity, innovation, and independence — all of which are key values for the future of technological development.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to all the participants, mentors, and contributors whose knowledge, energy, and creativity made this an unforgettable research experience. We are already looking forward to the next camp!
