The Fundamental Program Objectives and General Competencies

The basic objective of the master’s study programme of Mechanical Engineering – Research and Development programme is to educate graduates of the first-cycle study programmes in the fields of engineering and science. This objective encompasses training them into experts who will be able to effectively and creatively solve complex research and development problems, as well as project application tasks in the field of general mechanical engineering and train them to be able to link up and integrate different interdisciplinary fields.

 

Admission requirements and selection criteria in case of restricted enrollment

Admission requirements

Those who have completed the following may enrol in the 2nd cycle Master’s Study Programme in Mechanical Engineering – Research and Development Programme:

  • a study programme at the 1st cycle evaluated with at least 180 credit points ECTS in the field of Mechanical Engineering in Development Research, or an equivalent study programme acquired through previous regulations in the Republic of Slovenia or abroad;
  • a study programme at the 1st cycle evaluated with at least 180 credit points ECTS in the field of Mechanical Engineering in Project Application, or an equivalent study programme acquired through previous regulations in the Republic of Slovenia or abroad, if the candidate has completed the study obligations necessary for the continuation of their study in the amount of 10 to 15 credit points ECTS before enrolment;
  • a study programme at the 1st cycle evaluated with at least 180 credit points ECTS in other fields of expertise, or an equivalent study programme acquired through previous regulations in the Republic of Slovenia or abroad, if the candidate has completed all study obligations necessary for the continuation of their study. These obligations are determined by the Commission for registration and may vary from 10 to no more than 60 credit points ECTS, depending on the difference of the area of expertise.

Selection criteria in case of restricted enrolment

In case of limited enrolment the candidate’s success in their 1st cycle study will be taken into account (average grade and diploma thesis grade). If the 1st cycle study programme did not include a diploma thesis, only the average grade will be considered.

Terms for advancement

Promotion Requirements from the first year to second year of the Study Programme

The completion of the study obligations in the extent of at least 48 ECTS credits.

Exceptionally, a student may also enroll into the 2nd year,  if he has not completed all the requirements set by the Study Programme for enrolment into a higher year in the event of justified reasons, determined by the Statutes of the University of Ljubljana, Article 153 such as: (motherhood, extended illness, exceptional family or social circumstances, a recognised status of a person with special needs, active participation at top scientific, cultural or sport events or active participation in the bodies of the University) or for reasons arising from obligations under a parallel study, the transition from one university to another, language problems (foreign students), additional study loads due to international exchanges or increased workload for additional development and research work.

A student has a right to apply for student status according to the Statutes of University of Ljubljana, Article 239: Legitimate reasons such as prolonged illness, exceptional family and social circumstances or the special status of the student shall be decided on by the commission for study matters of the Member in question or by another body appointed by the Member’s rules.

 

 

Conditions for re-enrolment

A student who has not completed all the requirements,  set by the study program for enrollment into a higher year may repeat a year, if he/she acquired at least 24 ECTS credits. During the studies, he/she can repeat an academic year only once.

The conditions for the completion of the studies

The condition for the completion of the studies and the acquisition of professional title: Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (all courses, except for the course Education in Mechanical Engineering), respectively the professional title: Master of Education in Mechanical Engineering (course Education in Mechanical Engineering), that a candidate successfully completes all program specific Study requirements in the scope of 120 ECTS credits and successfully defends a master’s thesis.

The methods of assessment are in accordance with the Statute of the UL and are listed in the curricula of the courses.

Application info

The call for enrolment into the master’s study programmes at the University of Ljubljana is published each year between February and June for the next academic year. Students apply for enrolment into a master’s study programme in accordance with deadlines and the method specified in the Call for Enrolment.

Candidates should submit their application for the enrolment into the Master’s Study Programme Mechanical Engineering with an electronic form at the eVŠ web portal up to and including September 1st 2024.

Recognition of foreign education

A candidate who has finished his or her studies in a foreign country (not Slovenia) and would like to continue education in the Slovenian higher education institution is obliged to acquire a decision on the recognition of the foreign education, if they have not obtained one already. Higher education institutions are the competent bodies for the education recognition procedure.
