Today’s reception for new students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana, held in the Linhart Hall of Cankarjev Dom, highlighted the key role of mechanical engineers in addressing the global challenges of sustainable development and green transition, and was accompanied by motivational speakers. Dr Boštjan Pečnik, Executive Vice President of Hisense Europe, highlighted four key elements for success: “Clear and ambitious goals, superior knowledge, focus and teamwork are the basis for success. As an engineer, you have to take responsibility for the things you develop. Whatever path you take, there will be obstacles along the way, so I would stress the importance of continuing to work on yourself.”
With a shortage of technically qualified staff in Slovenia, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is aware of its responsibility to educate the generations whose innovations will shape the future of mobility, energy and manufacturing. That’s why we decided to welcome our graduates in a special way – to inspire them, to stimulate their curiosity and to show them that they are taking responsibility for the world they will help to shape.
The Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Dr Mihael Sekavčnik, emphasised in his speech: “You have set yourself a clear goal – to become a mechanical engineer. It is a challenging but achievable goal. Only a fulfilled person is committed to his or her profession, innovative and creative, and a responsible contributor to society. With total dedication to your studies, there is nothing you cannot achieve“.
Samo Jeranko, M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and two-time free diving world record holder, told the audience: “You are about to embark on a wonderful journey. Clear goals are key. Surround yourself with ambitious people. The best thing is to live for something that really fulfils you“.
At the end of the event, the students were encouraged to take advantage of all the opportunities to learn at the Faculty, as these work habits are the best guarantee of success and satisfaction in their career paths. The event once again highlighted the need to support the education of engineers who will have the courage and knowledge to change our future.
