From 26 to 29 August 2025, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, hosted more than 100 curious primary school pupils (final three grades) from across Slovenia, who enthusiastically rolled up their sleeves and explored creativity, technology, and engineering.
In 12 diverse workshops, participants:
- built a simple glider – from design to production,
- joined the workshop Girls for Girls: robotic production of silicone molds for chocolate pralines,
- explored the design and construction of gear transmissions,
- discovered the world of High-Performance Computing (HPC),
- crafted their own mini wooden guitar,
- developed a smart solar flower,
- constructed a thermal engine,
- built a mini wind turbine,
- tried out 3D printing of products,
- created decorative and promotional items with laser engraving,
- designed and modelled a portable weather station,
- and learned about the use of computer tools for power transmissions.
The key message? Knowledge comes alive through hands-on creation! Participants were inspired by collaboration with mentors and by discovering mechanical engineering as a creative and multifaceted discipline.
Once again, the Summer School of Mechanical Engineering has proven to be one of Slovenia’s most inspiring programs for young students – a program that sparks curiosity, strengthens innovation, and connects youth who will co-create our technological future.
