The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana is organising a public presentation on the progress of the Greentech project. This will take place on Thursday, 27 November 2025, at 17:00 in the Alma Karlin Hall at the Cankarjev Dom.

Greentech is an interdisciplinary research project that brings together academic and industrial partners to develop advanced technologies for the green transition. The programme pairs cutting-edge scientific expertise with leading Slovenian companies, supporting the transition of the Slovenian economy towards sustainable production processes and products. It links the value chain from research and development to advanced manufacturing technologies and energy-efficient appliances based on EU materials.

The project is led by prof. dr. Janko Slavič, of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana. It runs from 1 January 2024 to 30 June 2026. Its total value is €5.2 million, of which €3.75 million is co-financed through actions under the Recovery and Resilience Plan. The event will showcase the tangible achievements of individual research groups in terms of reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and promoting sustainable production. In addition to the UL Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the consortium comprises the following companies: Gorenje, Fotona, Domel, LPKF, Yaskawa Slovenija, Danfoss Trata, Kronoterm and Medius. It also includes the following research organisations: the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana and the Faculty of Management at the University of Primorska.

The Greentech project exceeded expectations in 2025. Even before the project’s completion, we had achieved most of our targets. We launched 20 innovations, applied for nine patents, and presented our results in more than 30 scientific papers. We introduced eight new technological and organisational solutions and developed eight new products or services. Most importantly, the project is delivering social and economic benefits. We have now reached TRL 6, meaning we are ready for higher TRLs and market entry. Greentech is based on close cooperation with industry, which takes responsibility for 65% of project implementation and around 30% of co-financing. It is the close link between science and business that ensures the project creates real change in industry and society, rather than remaining on paper,” said prof. dr. Janko Slavič, Greentech Project Manager, at the progress presentation.

Over the ten years of full implementation of the solutions on the EU market, the project will contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions by more than 17 million tonnes, energy consumption by almost 9 billion kWh, and material consumption by around 800,000 tonnes. Its impact will first be felt in Slovenia, then spread to Europe and eventually the rest of the world.
