Today, 24th May 2023, the Library Open Day took place and at 11:00 a.m. the Dean of UL, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, prof. dr. Mihael Sekavčnik, inaugurated the enriched library collection. The library’s collection has been enriched by 98 titles worth more than EUR 11,000, and the plan is for the Faculty to invest a similar amount each year in the latest professional and scientific literature.

With the renewal of the programmes, the Faculty has also invested in the modernising the library collection to support the teaching process and the wider engineering knowledge base. Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Dean emphasised: “Engineering is developing rapidly, so it is important that the knowledge we teach at the Faculty is up to date. The transfer of knowledge to students is not only possible through up-to-date curricula and involvement in cutting-edge research; it must also be supported by high-quality and up-to-date academic literature“.

Zorka Kešelj, Head of the Faculty Library, also addressed the audience: “The new books will be available for home loan immediately after the opening ceremony. The books have been colour-coded to indicate the field of study: power engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, process engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechatronics, and laser engineering, which will make the library more user-friendly“.

Matija Špegel, President of the Student Council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at UL, welcomed the new acquisition: “The Faculty has already supported student initiative with the Open Laboratory – Peskovnik, where we can test our ideas in practice. I am pleased that the Faculty has continued to support the study process and the curiosity of the students by purchasing professional and scientific literature and that it will continue to do so in the years to come”.

We hope that all students will make good use of their new library materials!
