During the University Week, the University of Ljubljana presented awards to students for their outstanding achievements in extracurricular activities. Among the recipients was the team behind the “SpaceDent” project: Mitja Dergan, Rok Gerbec, Matic Hvala, Hana Prtenjak, Tine Šefic, Tomaž Škapin, Tomi Štucin, and Tomaž Tomšič.

This multidisciplinary research group, made up of students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and the Medical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, is part of the Academy Experiments program. The project’s goal is to take the first step in preparing dental medicine for long-duration missions to the Moon and Mars.

As part of the project, the team also carried out an extensive media campaign to inspire students and younger generations to get involved in space-related projects, sparking interest in this field.

The students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering made a significant contribution by designing and building a specialized chamber in the »Peskovnik«, successfully combining theoretical knowledge with innovative, practical solutions. Through their creativity, interdisciplinary approach, and high professional standards, they have laid the groundwork for further development in this area.

Congratulations to the entire SpaceDent team for their exceptional achievement, professional excellence, and outstanding contribution to space research!
