What can we create with modern engineering technologies? From 25 to 28 August 2026, participants of the Summer School of Mechanical Engineering will explore exactly that. Held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, the four-day programme offers a unique opportunity to create, experiment, and discover the world of engineering.
More than one hundred participants will spend several days immersed in a real research environment under the guidance of the faculty’s researchers and professional staff. In the laboratories, they will develop their ideas from the initial concept to a finished product, test it in practice, and take their creations home at the end of the programme.
The programme includes a wide range of workshops covering aviation, energy and renewable energy sources, digital technologies, biomedical engineering, computer modelling, and advanced manufacturing processes. Participants will, among other things, build a mini wind turbine, explore the possibilities of 3D printing, develop a system for producing clean water, learn the basics of high-performance computing (HPC), and create products using laser technologies.
For the twelfth consecutive year, we have been introducing young people to engineering through hands-on activities that encourage creativity, exploration, and collaboration.
The Summer School is intended for students who have completed grades 6 to 9 of primary school. It forms part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering’s commitment to presenting engineering to young people in an engaging, accessible, and highly practical way. Participants gain not only new knowledge and skills, but also first-hand experience of what it is like to work as a researcher or engineer in a real laboratory environment.
