The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana has successfully concluded the 11th Summer School of Mechanical Engineering, which once again inspired young people for the professions of the future. The Summer School took place from 27 to 30 August and was attended by 85 primary school pupils from all over Slovenia, who spent the last days of their holidays in 11 innovative workshops.
Workshops included 3D printing of products, building a simple glider, CNC making of silicon moulds for chocolate pralines, High Performance Computing (HPC), building a mini wind farm, a portable weather station and a heat engine. They also made their own stringed musical instruments, created promotional products using lasers, and had fun with mobile robots and smart solar flowers.
Each workshop was designed to give participants a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Participants learned about the complexity and diversity of mechanical engineering through the process of creation, from conception to production of the final product.
By organising such events, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering opens the door to the world of mechanical engineering as a promising career path for young people, especially at a time when technological and green solutions are key to the future. The Summer School of Mechanical Engineering, supported by the Slovenian Association for Technical Culture and the EIT Manufacturing Hub Slovenia at UL FME, is an important part of our efforts to stimulate interest in technical careers that will play a central role in shaping the future.
We are delighted that these young individuals who participated in this year’s Summer School of Mechanical Engineering will become the leading engineers of tomorrow, contributing their innovation and knowledge to a more sustainable and technologically advanced society.
