The University of Ljubljana has announced the recipients of the Innovation Fund 2025, which supports the development of research projects with high innovation potential and their transition to higher levels of technological readiness. Among the six selected projects, two come from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UL, confirming its visible role in the research and innovation landscape.
Among the awarded projects is Efficient cooling of micro and power electronics devices, led by Assoc. Prof. Katja Klinar. The project focuses on overcoming the limitations of existing cooling approaches, such as air and liquid cooling, by developing solutions that enable higher heat dissipation density, improved energy efficiency, and the use of environmentally friendly cooling media. This is important for the continued development of high-performance and reliable electronic systems.

The second selected project, Smart dehumidifier, led by Assoc. Prof. Primož Poredoš, addresses the issue of excess moisture in living and working environments. The project develops a solution for efficient dehumidification without noise, compressors, or environmentally problematic refrigerants, which can function as a standalone device or be integrated into building design. It contributes to improving living conditions and the long-term protection of buildings.

In addition to the two projects from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UL, four other projects from different faculties of the University of Ljubljana were also selected, covering areas such as sustainable materials, biodiversity monitoring, medicine, and advanced therapeutic solutions.
The selection reflects the diversity of research approaches and highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. For the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UL, it further confirms its focus on developing solutions that address real technological and societal challenges.
