On December 23, 2024, an agreement on mutual cooperation was signed between the Police and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the premises of the General Police Directorate. The purpose of the agreement is to establish a long-term system for the education and training of helicopter pilot candidates, who are needed for tasks such as emergency helicopter assistance, mountain rescue, and support in activating national protection and rescue plans.
The Police, which already performs specialized tasks within the aviation unit, requires trained helicopter pilots, making this agreement crucial for the future training of personnel. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Ljubljana already offers a higher professional study program for airplane and helicopter pilots, which enables students to obtain licenses for commercial airplane and helicopter pilots. Under the agreement, the faculty will provide theoretical training, while the Police, through its Aviation Police Unit, will conduct practical training for helicopter pilots.
The agreement was signed by the General Director of the Police, mag. Senad Jušić, and the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Mihael Sekavčnik. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of the Interior, Boštjan Poklukar, the Head of the Aviation Police Unit, Dejan Kink, and Dr. Igor Petrović, the Head of the Aeronautics Laboratory at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
