DBF Edvard Rusjan Team with its Svarog aircraft won 8th place among 112 teams from all over the world at the international aviation competition Design Build Fly 2025 in Tucson (Arizona).

From 10 to 13 April, one of the most prestigious student aviation competitions in the world – Design Build Fly 2025 – took place in Tucson, Arizona, USA. The DBF Edvard Rusjan team represented UL’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering with the Svarog aircraft and placed 8th out of 112 university teams, another top result in the team’s history.

Svarog successfully completed all three missions

On Thursday, the team passed the technical inspection and completed the static (ground) mission. On Friday, the aircraft completed its first two flight missions, the second of which carried a 6 kg payload in excellent time and even climbed to first place for a while.

On Saturday, strong winds just before launch made conditions very difficult for the third mission, but the mission was still successfully completed. On Sunday, they tried to improve on the third mission, but the wind surprised them again and prevented them from making any progress. The team significantly improved its static mission time, and the combined results of all missions resulted in an 8th place finish.

A project that builds the future

The team has demonstrated a high level of knowledge, technical sophistication and commitment throughout the project. The DBF is not just a competition, it is an environment where students build aircraft, gain practical experience, develop engineering skills and prove that they can compete with the best universities in the world.

Congratulations on getting top ranked!
