The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, strongly condemns the act of vandalism that occurred during the night at the entrance to the faculty building. The incident has been reported to the competent authorities and is being treated with the utmost seriousness.

Preliminary findings suggest that the act is related to misinterpretations of the faculty’s participation in the European research project SEAMAC, part of the Horizon Europe programme, approved and funded by the European Union.

Within SEAMAC, the Faculty collaborates with research institutions from Germany and Israel in the field of metal additive manufacturing (3D printing) and post-processing of metallic components. The aim of the project is to transfer cutting-edge knowledge to Slovenian industry and strengthen the competitiveness of the country’s tooling and manufacturing sectors.

The project has been formally approved through the European Commission’s standard evaluation procedure, which ensures full compliance with the ethical and legal standards of the European Union. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering strictly adheres to Slovenian and EU legislation and to the highest ethical principles of research integrity in all its activities.

We express deep regret and concern that the work of our researchers – whose mission is to advance knowledge and technology for the benefit of society – has become the target of misunderstandings and acts of intolerance.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, will continue to pursue its mission in the spirit of openness, collaboration, and mutual respect – values that represent the foundation of both the University of Ljubljana and the European research community.
