IRT3000 magazine and Mediade, together with their partners, presented the Engineer of the Year award for the sixth consecutive year. Ljupka Vrteva, Master of Mechanical Engineering, Development Engineer for Heating, Ventilation and Cooling of Buildings and Project Manager for Solar Power Plants at Petrol, is the recipient of the title Engineer of the Year 2023.

Vrteva received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana. In 2019, she completed the European Energy Manager – EUREM international training programme at the Jožef Stefan Institute and now works as a development engineer at Petrol. She has developed a unique computer programme for mechanical ventilation and is now working on designing new, more efficient energy systems.

According to the organisers of the Engineer of the Year project, Vrteva is constantly looking for new challenges in the energy sector and, above all, sharing her knowledge and experience from the field. Her message to young girls is: ” Be brave and go for it. Every one of us is capable. Every one of us can do it. Every one of us has got wings, we just have to start flying!” Her mission is to encourage young girls in particular to choose a career. “Every one of us women is capable of following their own aspirations and there will come a time in their lives when they will be grateful and proud of themselves for having the courage to pursue a career in engineering,” she said.

Initiated by Siemens Slovenia and part of the We Will be Engineers! initiative, the competition was organised by IRT3000 magazine and Mediade and its partners for the sixth year in a row.

Congratulations to all the other nominees!
