We recently inaugurated the renovated Laboratory or Aeronautics (AEROL) and a new flight simulator. “The investment is an important asset for students who choose one of the aviation courses during their studies,” emphasised Prof. Dr. Mihael Sekavčnik, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, in his opening speech.

Prof. Dr. Franci Pušavec said that “the new acquisition was made possible by ULTRA – UL for a Sustainable Society, Pilot Project 4.02 Development of Sustainable Rail and Air Mobility Studies. The project is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the European Union – NextGenerationEU“, and Senior Lecturer Dr. Igor Petrović pointed out that “the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana is the only centre for theoretical training of Airline Transport Pilots (ATPL) in Slovenia, which at the same time provides candidates with a wide range of technical know-how, higher vocational education and professional aeronautical know-how in accordance with EASA regulations. We are proud to be able to offer our students such world-class learning facilities and continue to produce generations of graduates who are valued around the world.

The Elite Pi-1000 simulator in the training process allows to follow the EASA-e guidelines for a green transition in flight crew training with a lower carbon footprint. In addition to building theoretical knowledge through practical exercises in aviation subjects, it also enables the acquisition of competencies in knowledge, skills and attitudes that complement the revised learning objectives for transport pilots. The simulator also facilitates learning and the transition from analogue to digital flight instruments in general aviation.

The opening of the facilities and flight simulator was also attended by representatives of the Slovenian Armed Forces, the Police and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Republic of Slovenia, with whom the Faculty has a close working relationship.

Short introductory flights in the flight simulator will be available on 13 March 2024, subject to prior registration at simulator.letenja@fs.uni-lj.si.
