Project title: Feasibility Study on Laser-Ablation-Based Dynamic Micro-Balancing for Two-Piston Miniature Stirling Rotary Cryocoolers
Type of project: International Project
Role: Contractor
Financing: European Space Agency ESA
Duration: 15.5.2026 – 15.8.2027
Laboratory: Laboratory for Dynamics of Machines and Structures LADISK
Project description:
Striling cryocoolers are used on satellites in IR camera system for earth observation. In orbit, its important that this systems operate reliably for the whole mission duration and exhibit minimal vibration that can influence the image quality and other systems on the spacecraft. Dynamic balancing of the internal mechanism with laser ablation is a possible solution for reducing the generated vibrations of the system after assembly with minimal intervention into the internals of the cooler.
