Project description:
The overall objective of the SMART-LIVING programme is to develop technologies and products for creating the zero-emission, sustainable, zero-energy, modular and adaptable buildings of the future through interdisciplinary collaboration between research organisations and industry partners.
Particular emphasis will be placed on solutions that contribute to the well-being, health, safety and security of users. The developed prototypes will be integrated into a full-scale demonstration building module, enabling their testing and evaluation in a real-world environment.
The main outcomes of the programme will be prototypes that will provide the basis for the development of final products and their subsequent mass production. During the development process, the properties of the products will be assessed in advance, potential manufacturing challenges will be identified, and options for managing the products at the end of their life cycle will be explored.
The University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (UL FS), participates in the project as a research partner, contributing expertise in the fields of thermal engineering, energy efficiency, intelligent decision-support systems, predictive maintenance and structural dynamics. Two laboratories are involved in the project:
Laboratory for Refrigeration and District Energy (LAHDE), which contributes expertise in thermal management, heat pumps, solar engineering and energy systems;
Laboratory for the Digitalization of Structural Dynamics (LASDi), which contributes expertise in predictive maintenance, structural dynamics and artificial intelligence-based decision-support systems.
