In the Sandpit, the open laboratory of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana, a presentation of student projects from the winter and summer semesters took place on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The event once again proved that young creators are full of innovative ideas and practical solutions that can significantly contribute to technological progress.
The presentation began with a speech by the Vice-Dean for Scientific Research and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Janko Slavič, who emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and hands-on learning. This was followed by the presentation of projects, where students demonstrated exceptional technical knowledge and creativity.
As part of the presentation, the students showcased projects such as the design and construction of a skateboard press, Peciklavto – the creation of a control system and chairs for a pedal-powered vehicle, the development and production of chassis inserts, giant slalom skis, a pellet extruder, a graphical calculator, the design and construction of a football table, and a surfboard.
The event also included a report on the activities of student teams operating within the Sandpit: DBF – Edvard Rusjan Team and Superior Engineering – Formula Student.
Connecting with Companies and Supporting Development
The event was also attended by Mr. Damjan Trček, a representative from the sponsoring company Plastika Trček, d.o.o., which supports students with its 3D printing filaments. He introduced the company and praised the creativity of the students and their commitment to bringing their projects to life.
At the end of the presentation, participants gathered for a relaxed networking session, where they exchanged ideas and discussed possibilities for further collaboration.
More Than Just a Laboratory
With its wide range of workshops, calls for student projects, and events, the Sandpit is evolving into a true hub of innovation and collaboration. Over the years, it has become a space where students can gain valuable experience and turn their ideas into tangible solutions.
With this new generation of projects, the Sandpit once again proves that the future of technological development is in the hands of young innovators!
