Project title: Self-organising millirobot swarms for autonomous modification of unknown, granular terrain
Acronym: SWAM
Type of project: International Project
Role: Contractor
Financing: European Space Agency ESA
Duration: 1.01.2024 – 31.12.2024
Laboratory: Laboratory for Mechatronics, Production Systems and Automation LAMPA
Project description:
The SWAM project is an initiative aimed at improving autonomous navigation in multi-rover systems for the exploration and terrain prospecting on Earth, the Moon, and Mars. At the heart of this project is the development of a system that enables rovers to work together effectively, even with limited communication bandwidth. SWAM will use innovative terrain analysis and 3D mapping techniques to improve the capabilities of autonomous robots in unknown, challenging environments, ultimately demonstrating advanced, intelligent collaboration.
