Year 3: Students continue their studies in the course they chose in the 2nd year.
The Fundamental Program Objectives and General Competencies
- To provide our graduates with high-quality knowledge that encompasses a solid foundation of understanding and knowledge in the broader field of mechanical engineering, which, upon completion of the study, gives them appropriate competences for appropriate employment. In the case of continuation of their study, the acquired knowledge constitutes an appropriate starting point for research studies at the postgraduate level.
- To develop critical judgment and synthesis abilities and to cultivate and implement professional engineering responsibility.
- With the received knowledge and education in a broader field of mechanical engineering, comparable to other related study programmes in Europe, our graduates will be capable of linking up and integrating different interdisciplinary fields.

Promotion Requirements from the first year to second year of Study Programme:
Students can advance to the second year until the end of the study year, when they have fulfilled all the requirements, determined by the curriculum of the current academic year and have accumulated minimum of 48 ECTS credits.
Promotion Requirements from second year to third year of Study Programme:
Students can advance to the third year, when they have fulfilled all the requirements determined by the curriculum of the second year and have accumulated a minimum of 48 ECTS credits and all the requirements determined by the curriculum of first year and have accumulated minimum of 60 ECTS credits.
Exceptionally, a student may enrol in a higher year even if he or she has not fulfilled all the obligations stipulated in the study programme for enrolment in a higher year, when he or she has justified reasons for doing so as set out in Article 125 of the UL Statute (parenthood, prolonged illness of the student, exceptional family and social circumstances, recognised status of a person with special needs or special status, active participation in top professional, cultural and sports events and active participation in university bodies) or reasons arising from obligations due to parallel studies, transfer from one university to another, language problems (foreign students), additional workload due to international exchange or increased workload in additional developmental research work. The student must state valid reasons for the non-fulfilment of obligations and, upon request, provide the examination programme for the past period.
The fulfilment of justified reasons is decided by a special committee consisting of the vice-dean for pedagogical work of the first-cycle higher education professional study programme Mechanical Engineering – Project Oriented Applied Programme, the mentor of the year in which the student is enrolled and the mentor of the year in which the student wishes to enroll. Students who show above-average academic results are enabled to progress faster. This decision is adopted by the UL FS Senate on the basis of the application of the candidate and the opinion of the UL FS Committee for Higher Professional Studies. The decision sets out a way to move forward more quickly.
Requirements for repeating a year of Study Programme:
A student who has not fulfilled all the requirements set by the study programme for enrolment into a higher year may repeat a year if he/she has earned at least 24 ECTS credits. A year can only be repeated once during the course of the studies.
A student may also be able to repeat a year even if he does not fulfil the requirements referred to in the previous paragraph if there are justified grounds for doing so (prolonged illness, extenuating family and social circumstances, study commitments related to parallel studies, university transfers, language difficulties (foreign students), additional commitments due to international exchange or increased workload related to additional development and research work). The student must provide valid reasons for uncompleted requirements and submit the exam programme for the previous period when lodging his application. Whether or not the conditions for justified grounds have been met shall be decided by a special committee, consisting of the Vice-Dean of pedagogical work for the first-cycle professional study programme “MECHANICAL ENGINEERING”, the mentor of the year in which the student is currently enrolled and the student’s tutor.
Requirements for the completion of studies:
A student is deemed to have completed his studies when he/she completes all the requirements prescribed by the study programme in the amount of 180 ECTS credits.
Methods of assessment:
The methods of assessment are compliant with the UL Statute and are listed in the course syllabi.
Conditions for transferring between programmes:
The transfer between programmes shall mean the termination of the student’s education in the study programme in which he initially enrolled and the continuation of education in the first-cycle professional study programme “MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – Project-Oriented Applied Programme”, whereby part of the requirements or all of the requirements that the student has already passed as part of the initial study programme shall be deemed to have been completed. It should be noted, however, that transferring is only possible between study programmes that provide comparable competencies upon completion. Applications for a transfer to the first-cycle professional study programme “MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – Project-Oriented Applied Programme” and the scope of recognized requirements within the study programme will be reviewed by the Undergraduate Studies Committee as per Articles 181 to 189 of the UL Statute and UL FME Rules on the Conditions for Transfers Between Study Programmes.
In accordance with the Criteria for Transfers Between Study Programmes, the candidate can enrol in the first cycle professional study programme “MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – Project-Oriented Applied Programme”, provided that he/she is entitled to at least half of the ECTS credits from the initial study programme, pertaining to the compulsory subjects of the first-cycle professional study programme “MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – Project-Oriented Applied Programme. If, during the recognition procedure, the candidate is found to be entitled to at least as many (and specifically those) credit points that are the prerequisite for enrolment in a higher year of the first-cycle professional study programme “MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – Project-Oriented Applied Programme”, the candidate shall be allowed to enrol in a higher year of the first cycle professional study programme “MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – Project-Oriented Applied Programme”.
